It use to be the entire region of Rishikesh was sacred and these restriction were enforced for a thousand years. But slowly modern civilization has overpowered the region as commercialism has taken over and push out the old yogic ways and rules. Ram Jhula is primarily old ashrams, temples and Ghat steps down to the Ganga river. Home to the famous Maharishi Mahesh Ashram known for Transcendental Meditation and that music group The Beatles Ashram.
